Restoring Hope and Education for Vulnerable Migrant Children, JMJ Sneha Sadan, Kogilu, Karnataka
JMJ Sneha Sadan at Kogilu, Bengaluru, run by the Sisters of the Congregation of Jesus Mary Joseph, is dedicated to the care, protection, education, and holistic development of vulnerable children, women, differently-abled persons, and the elderly. The institution provides shelter, education, healthcare, counseling, vocational training, and emotional support to orphaned and marginalized children, especially girls, helping them grow into confident and responsible individuals.
The sisters are actively engaged in socio-pastoral, educational, and community development services, including women empowerment, legal support, medical assistance, and rehabilitation programmes. Through compassionate care, they strive to restore dignity and hope among vulnerable communities.
A remarkable initiative undertaken by the sisters was their outreach to migrant children living in nearby slums. Observing children wandering without education, hygiene, or protection, visited migrant families from Bihar, understood their struggles, and counseled parents on the importance of education and child welfare. With the support of local people and landlords, the sisters successfully mainstreamed 35 migrant children into formal education by arranging school admissions, books, uniforms, transport, and continuous care. This initiative brought hope, dignity, and a brighter future to vulnerable migrant children.
