A Collective Voice for Dignity, Equality and Inclusion

On 7th April 2026, Vijayawada witnessed the historic Andhra Pradesh LGBTQ+ Community Swabhimana Sabha, the first large-scale gathering of transgender and hijra communities in the state. Organized by JMJ Social Service Society (JMJ SSS), Hum Is Deshwasi, Sneha Siri Sadhikarika Welfare Society, and allied organizations, the event brought together over 1,200 participants, including community members, activists, civil society representatives, and policymakers, to promote dignity, equality, and social inclusion.

The Sabha centered on the theme of Swabhimana (Self-Respect), addressing issues such as education, healthcare, employment, housing, identity recognition, and protection from discrimination. A vibrant rally through Vijayawada created awareness and visibility for transgender rights and inclusion.

At Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, community leaders, activists, and legal experts discussed welfare measures and equal opportunities. Chief Guest Dr. Rayapati Sailaja, Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh State Women Commission, assured support for inclusive welfare initiatives.

JMJ SSS has been actively empowering transgender persons through awareness programs, leadership training, advocacy campaigns, livelihood support, legal literacy, and interactions with government officials. The Sabha strengthened solidarity, inspired confidence, and reinforced the collective demand for justice, dignity, and equal rights for LGBTQ+ community in Andhra Pradesh, India.
